What happens when you start a metal band in Dubai? Ask Ben Bruce, who kicked off Asking Alexandria in 2006 before realizing he needed to take his dreams to England. There, he found Danny Worsnop, who ended up crashing at his place in York, UK while they built what would become one of modern metal's most interesting success stories. The band started with a heavier sound on albums like "Stand Up and Scream" and moved toward more melodic hard rock on recent releases like "Like a House on Fire" and "See What's on the Inside."
Their 2009 debut "Stand Up and Scream" hit like a sledgehammer, with "Final Episode" and "Not the American Average" eventually going gold in the US. Not bad for a band named because Bruce thought "Alexandria" sounded like somebody you'd want to hang out with! The band got its name because Bruce thought Alexandria was a relatable human name, and they spent their early days touring America supporting other bands. Just as they were riding high with their third album hitting number 5 on Billboard, Worsnop split to chase his hard rock dreams with We Are Harlot.
Enter Denis Stoff, from Ukraine, for what turned out to be the shortest chapter in the band's history. After he ghosted the band and started making demands, Worsnop made his triumphant return in 2016. Some drama that every metal band has been through. Since then, it's been all about evolution. They've traded their metalcore roots for a more melodic rock sound, Asking Alexandria's albums like "Like a House on Fire" and "See What's on the Inside" were very successful and brought new opportunities for the group.
By 2024, founder Ben Bruce stepped away to be with his family, leaving Asking Alexandria with no original members for the first time. But with Worsnop still howling up front and a solid lineup behind him. Despite this change, the band continues performing, including supporting Falling in Reverse on tour in the UK.
