Gemitaiz Biography

Davide De Luca, better known by his stage name Gemitaiz, is an Italian rapper. He was born on November 4, 1988 in Rome, Italy. Gemitaiz emerged from the underground hip hop scene in Rome in the early 2000’s. The first mixtape he put out was “Affare romano” (“Roman Affair” English) in 2006. The success of that tape prompted him to release 2 more volumes of it, in 2007 and in 2009.

In 2008, unknown thieves broke into the recording studio he was working in and stole a number of his unreleased tracks. Having not made any digital copies of it apparently, he released a tape with a list of unmixed versions of his songs, with the title “No (mix)tape”.

Gemitaiz partnered up with another prominent figure in the Italian hip hop world, MadMan, in 2011. They released the EP “Detto, fatto.” (“No Sooner Said Than Done”) together in November 2012. His debut solo album finally came out in May 2013, with the title “L'unico compromesso” (“The Only Compromise”). It peaked at the #3 spot on the Italian charts.

Since then, the Roman rapper has put out 5 more albums, thus he has 6 in total. The best selling among them so far has been “Nonostante tutto” (“Despite Everything”) from January 2016. Meanwhile, his latest project came out in May 2022, entitled “Eclissi” (“Eclipse”).

Gemitaiz’s biggest hits to date are “Bene” (“Well”, 2016), “Davide” (“David”, 2018) featuring Coez, and “Senza di Me” (“Without Me”, also 2018), featuring Venerus and Franco126.

In 2014, Gemitaiz received one year and 10 months of a suspended prison sentence for dealing drugs. In 2022, he publicly bad-mouthed fellow Italian rapper Jovanotti, calling him “a clown who carries around a bandwagon of cosmic indifference”. Speculation is he did it to drum up interest in his new Gemitaiz album and his upcoming Gemitaiz concert shows with a feud, but his target is yet to respond.
