Formed in 2012, in Mosfellsbær, Iceland, KALEO is a blues rock band, featuring lead vocalist and guitarist Jökull Júlíusson, drummer Davíð Antonsson, bassist Daniel Kristjánsson, lead guitarist Rubin Pollock, and harmonicist Þorleifur Gaukur Davíðsson. They have released three studio albums: "Kaleo," "A/B," and "Surface Sounds." "A/B" sold over a million copies worldwide.
With the single "Way Down We Go" reaching number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and earning double platinum status in the U.S. The band received a Grammy nomination in 2017 for Best Rock Performance for the song "No Good".
Best friends since elementary school outside Reykjavik, in Iceland, band leader Jökull Júlíusson, drummer David Antonsson, and bassist Daniel Kristjansson began playing together at 17 before adding guitarist Rubin Pollock in 2012. They named the band Kaleo, meaning "the voice" in Hawaiian, and gained fame after covering "Vor í Vaglaskógi."
In 2014, the band released "All the Pretty Girls." The song was a huge success and garnered over 87 million streams on Spotify. In early 2015, they signed with a major record label and relocated to Austin, USA. Their debut at the music festival South by Southwest (SXSW) in 2015 received press from Esquire, NPR, and All Songs Considered. "All the Pretty Girls" peaked at number 9 on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs chart.
To promote their major label debut album "A/B," they released singles "Way Down We Go," "No Good," and "I Can't Go On Without You." "Way Down We Go" was certified gold in many countries like the UK, Belgium, Ireland, and others.
In 2020, Kaleo released two singles, and one month later, they announced their new album's title and track list. The song "Backbone," was released that same year, but the album's release was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the tour was postponed twice, first to 2021, and then later to 2022.
