Stereophonics Concerts Setlist

Stereophonics is a Welsh alt rock band. They were formed in 1992 in Cwmaman, United Kingdom. The founding members were lead vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Kelly Jones (born in 1974 in Cwmaman, United Kingdom), bassist Richard Jones (1974, Cwmaman, United Kingdom), and drummer Stuart Cable (1970, Cwmaman, United Kingdom).

The three founders are all from the small village of about 1,000 people in Wales called Cwmaman. Kelly Jones and Cable even lived on the same street, and since they were both into music, it was natural that they started jamming together, in the Jones family’s garage. The two boys along with three friends formed a band and recorded a few demo tapes under the name “Zephyr” in their teenage years. However, they soon went their separate ways, Jones and two of his friends joining an R&B group called “Silent Runner”, while Cable became the drummer for the glam rock band “King Catwalk”. However, Cable was kicked out of his posse, which prompted him to reconnect with Jones again. The two decided to form yet another band - however, their third member quit shortly after the formation. So, Kelly Jones invited his old childhood friend Richard Jones (no relation between the two) to play the bass. Thus, in 1992, the band “Tragic Love Company” was created at last, which would be renamed “Stereophonics” a few years later.

The name “Stereophonics” comes from a gramophone manufacturer called “Falcon Stereophonic”. The new band was discovered by manager John Brand during a Stereophonics concert in 1996 at the Coliseum Theatre in Aberdare, Wales. This led to them receiving a whole slew of offers from labels, and them ultimately going with V2.

Their debut album came out in August 1997, with the title “Word Gets Around”. It became quite a hit, peaking at the #6 spot on the OCC chart in the UK. Since then, the prolific Welsh rockers have released 11 more studio albums, thus they have 12 in total. The best selling one among them is their second one, “Performance and Cocktails” from March 1999, which sold 1.88 million copies in the UK alone. Meanwhile, the latest new Stereophonics album came out in March 2022, with the title “Oochya!”. The biggest hits in the Stereophonics setlist to date are “Maybe Tomorrow” (2003), “Dakota” (2005), and “I Wanna Get Lost” (2015).

The band’s line-up has stayed relatively stable throughout the years, currently consisting of two of the three co-founders, lead singer Kelly Jones and bassist Richard Jones (the third founder, Stuart Cable, sadly passed away in 2010); as well as guitarist Adam Zindani and drummer Jamie Morrison. They’re also a popular summer festival act, having performed Stereophonics concert shows at such major British musical events as Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, Tramlines Festival, and Latitude.
