Alice Cooper Biography
Known as "The Godfather of Shock Rock," Vincent Damon Furnier, also known by his stage name, Alice Cooper, is a legendary rock singer known for over six decades of career in the music industry. Alice Cooper's journey is marked by a theatrical and macabre rock style influenced by horror films and vaudeville. Throughout his journey in the rock universe, Alice Cooper helped to shape the way of genres like glam rock and heavy metal. Alice Cooper is not only a rockstar, but also an entrepreneur, actor, and host for the radio show "Alice's Attic."
Alice Cooper was born in Detroit, USA, and from an early age, he developed a particular love for horror movies and rock music. After some problems in his family, they moved to Phoenix. Something interesting is that in Alice Cooper's yearbook, he ambitiously aimed to become "A million record seller." A goal that he not only achieved but went even further.
In 68, The Alice Cooper group was already formed. The group brought a very unique style and look. After an audition with the legendary Frank Zappa, the band was signed and released their debut album "Pretties for You." Later, the group's second album, "Easy Action," was released two years after the first one. Their second album didn't achieve the success of the first album. But by that same year, they worked with producer Bob Ezrin on "Love It to Death," which became their breakthrough with the hit "I'm Eighteen."
5 years later, Alice Cooper went solo and released "Welcome to My Nightmare." By the early 80s, the rockstar released his so-called blackout albums, which Alice Cooper once stated that he barely remembered, all this, due to his cocaine addiction at that time. Albums like "Zipper Catches Skin," and "Flush the Fashion," were all part of his blackout albums, with every and each album bringing a more eclectic style, some featuring genres like new wave, and others punk rock genre.
By 91, Alice Cooper was releasing his nineteenth album. "Hey Stoopid," wasn't a huge success due to the decline of glam metal at that time but still was a very important album to the career of the rock legend. That same year, Alice Cooper also collaborated with rock n' roll band Guns N' Roses and appeared in "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare" as Freddy Krueger's abusive stepfather.
By the early 2000s, at over 60 years of age, Alice Cooper was still very active, maintaining his rockstar lifestyle. His albums released at that time brought a heavy metal style. By 2010, Alice Cooper announced "The Gruesome Twosome Tour" with Rob Zombie.
As of 2024, Alice Cooper sold over 50 million records and released 29 studio albums, 11 live albums, 21 compilation albums, 12 video releases, and an audiobook.
