Formed in Seoul, South Korea, Ateez (or 에이티즈 in Korean) is a boy band under KQ Entertainment, a very famous entertainment group famous in worldwide for forming K-pop groups. The boy group have sold over seven million physical albums worldwide, received several prestigious awards, including multiple Mnet Asian Music Awards and Seoul Music Awards, and serve as global ambassadors for Korean culture and tourism initiatives. As of today, Ateez has released eleven EPs and three studio albums in Korean, along with two single albums, three EPs, and two studio albums in Japanese.
The idea of the group started when a member from KQ discovered a letter and mixtape from Kim Hongjoong (who later became Ateez's leader). Hongjoong became the company's first trainee. A few months later, Yunho joined as the second trainee. Later, Mingi, San, Seonghwa, Yeosang, Jongho, and Wooyoung joined the group.
In 2017, a few members of the K-pop boy band competed on the survival reality show Mix Nine (믹스나인 in Korean) and one year later, KQ released a performance video featuring all eight members dancing together for the first time. They also launched the web series "KQ Fellaz American Training," documenting their preparation in Los Angeles at The Millennium Dance Complex.
At the beginning of 2019, Ateez revealed the EP "Treasure EP.2: Zero to One," along with a teaser photo on social media. With the meteoric rise of the group and the success of each EP released, the boys embarked on their first tour, called "The Expedition Tour," with concerts across five cities in the U.S. and later extended to European cities through, all reportedly selling out.
In that same year, they also made their debut at KCON 2019 Japan, and later that year, they released one more EP, called "Treasure EP.3: One to All," with the lead single "Wave" chosen by fan vote, winning music program awards on M Countdown and The Show.
At the beginning of 2020, Ateez concluded their Treasure series with the release of their fourth EP, called "Treasure Epilogue: Action to Answer." The fourth EP achieved sales of over 179k physical copies in South Korea for the year.
In 2023, they released "Limitless," their second Japanese single album, featuring the anime theme song "Limitless". Throughout that same year, the boy band participated in events and music festivals including the 2023 Lovesome Festival in Seoul, Dance Day Live 2023 in Tokyo, and KCON Japan 2023 in Chiba.
In early 2024, The boy band embarked on one more tour, called "Towards the Light: Will to Power." The tour had sold-out concerts in Seoul, followed by similarly successful shows at Saitama Super Arena in Japan.
