Badshah's genre can be categorized as Indian pop or Indian folk, one thing that sets him apart from other rappers from India, is that Badshah writes songs in Hindi, English, Punjabi, and Haryanvi.
Signed with Universal Music Group, he was featured in movies like "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" and "Good Newwz."
Badshah's debut single "DJ Waley Babu" topped Indian iTunes and Spotify charts within 24 hours and garnered 10 million YouTube views in 30 hours. In 2016, his collaboration "Wakhra Swag" won major Punjabi Music Awards. Badshah has been listed in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and has had three songs on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart as of 2020.
Badshah started his career with the name "Cool Equal," known by his very unique signature phrase, "it's your boy Badshah." In 2020, he released the album "The Power of Dreams of a Kid," featuring eight tracks with artists like Lisa Mishra and Sikander Kahlon.
Also in 2020, Badshah released "Genda Phool" with Sony Music India, the song was a kind of "remix" of the song "Boro Loker Biti Lo." Later, the composer Ratan Kahar claimed to be the original composer, but Badshah stated it was a traditional, non-copyrighted Baul folk song.
