Cavetown Biography
Born in Cambridge, UK, Robin Daniel "Robbie" Skinner, also known by his stage name, Cavetown, is a singer and now YouTuber. Famous within the indie pop and indie rock genres, Cavetown has over 6.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify and his YouTube channel has 2.22 million subscribers and 555 million views (as of 2024). Cavetown started his YouTube channel in 2012 and has released five studio albums, including "Sleepyhead" in 2020 and "Worm Food" in 2022.
While his mother is a professional Baroque flutist. His early interest in music was shaped by his parents' musical backgrounds. At age 14, he released his first album, "Everything Is Made of Clouds." Over the next two years, he put out several projects, including "Gd Vibes" and "Everything is Made of Stars." Critics noted a theme of "acceptance of ignorance" in "Gd Vibes."
In 2015, Cavetown released his debut single "This is Home" and his self-titled album, "Cavetown." In 2016, Cavetown released his second album, "16/04/16," featuring a blend of bedroom pop and lo-fi indie rock. The album was dedicated to his late friend Jack Graham, with 60% of proceeds going to Cancer Research UK. In 2017, while still in college, Cavetown reached the finals of the Cambridge Band Competition, winning Best Acoustic Act and the Kimberley Rew Award for Songwriting, and performed at Strawberry Fair.
In 2018, he released his third album, "Lemon Boy," with the title track reaching 54 million streams on Spotify and 28 million views on YouTube by late 2022.
In 2020, he released "Sleepyhead" and canceled its supporting tour due to COVID-19. He later collaborated with Tessa Violet on "Smoke Signals" and launched a clothing line, Cave Collective.
