Pierre David Guetta is a French DJ and music producer. He was born on November 7, 1967 in Paris, France. Guetta grew up in Paris in a Moroccan-Jewish family with a sociologist father. He started to DJ in small local clubs in the early 1980’s. He didn’t release his first full original single until 1990. That debut song was titled “Nation Rap”, with French rapper Sidney Duteil doing the vocals.
Throughout the early 1990’s, Guetta was still focusing on performing the earlest versions of a David Guetta concert as a local DJ and managing night clubs in Paris. 4 years after his debut single, he released his second one, “Up & Away”, a collaboration with American house singer Robert Owens.
The first time Guetta hit international success was in 2001, with the release of his track "Just a Little More Love", featuring American singer Chris Willis. The same year, he founded his music production company Gum Productions. In June 2002, he released his debut album through the British label Virgin Records. It bore the same title as his first hit song, "Just a Little More Love". It peaked at the #6 spot on the charts in France.
Guetta reached mainstream success worldwide with the release of his fourth studio album, “One Love”, in August 2009. It peaked at the #70 spot on the Billboard 200 list over in the US. However, hit tracks from the record, such as “Sexy Bitch” featuring Akon and “Who’s That Chick?” featuring Rihanna, charted much higher everywhere around the world including America. In 2011, Guetta was voted the #1 DJ in the world in a poll by DJ Mag. He received the same honor twice more, in 2020 and 2021. In 2013, Billboard Magazine chose his 2009 hit “When Love Takes Over” as the number one dance-pop collaboration of all time. He went on his first and only international David Guetta concert tour in 2014, called the "Listen Tour".
Overall, Guetta has released 7 studio albums throughout his career. The best selling one among them so far has been “Nothing But the Beat” from August 2011, which sold 3.3 million copies around the world. Meanwhile, the latest new David Guetta album came out in September 2018, with the title “7”, alluding to the fact that it is the 7th record in his discography.
David Guetta’s biggest hits to date are “Play Hard” (2011) featuring Ne-Yo and Akon, “Titanium” (also 2011) featuring Sia, “Bad” (2014) featuring Showtek and Vassy, and “Shot Me Down” (also 2014) featuring Skylar Grey.
