Gabry Ponte Biography

Gabrielle “Gabry” Ponte is an Italian DJ, record producer, and radio personality. He was born on April 20, 1973 in Turin, Italy. He got his first job as a DJ-producer at age 19 through an open call with the Italian record company Bliss Corporation. After just three years in the industry, in 1995, he founded his own record label Worldbus Records, with a focus on remixes of old songs for new artists. It became quite successful, but Ponte didn’t stop there. In 1997, he formed the electronic music group “Eiffel 65” with two of his old co-workers at Bliss, Jeffrey Jey and Maurizio Lobina. The name of the band was randomly generated by a computer.

In 1998, their track titled "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" went on to become an international megahit. It even got into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles list in the US, peaking at the #6 spot. The vocals on the track were sung by Eiffel 65 lead singer Jey.

Eiffel 65 released 3 studio albums between 1999 and 2003. Ponte decided to leave the group in 2005 to kickstart his solo career. That year, he added many European Gabry Ponte concert stops, including one in Austria and one in Denmark.

His self-titled solo album, “Gabry Ponte” came out in 2002. It peaked at the #16 spot on the Italian FIMI charts. He also put out a record in 2004, while the latest new Gabry Ponte album he produced as a solo artist was released in 2008, with the title “Gabry2o”. In 2010, he reunited with his old mates to reform the widely successful EDM-Europop group Eiffel 65. However, he continued to put out songs as a lone musician as well.

The biggest solo hits in the Gabry Ponte setlist are “Che ne sanno i 2000” (2016) featuring Danti, “Tu Sei” (2019) also featuring Danti, “Lonely” (2020) featuring Jerome, and ”Thunder” (2021), featuring Lum!x and DJ Prezioso. In 2021, all Gabry Ponte concert shows had to be halted due to a heart surgery, but thankfully, he's made a full recovery since and is doing live performances again.
