Sisters Lzzy and Arejay Hale began playing music together as siblings when they were 13 and 10 years old, with their dad on bass at their initial gigs. What started out as family performances, complete with flip-top drum kit by Arejay, would blossom into one of hard rock's most frenetic bands.
The band really came into their own when Joe Hottinger and Josh Smith joined them in the early 2000s. Signed in 2005 to Atlantic Records, Halestorm worked hard - 250 shows a year hard. All that effort rewarded them when their 2009 self-titled debut made them players.
Their moment of destiny was 2012's "Love Bites (So Do I)", which broke a record when it won them a Grammy for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance - the first time a band led by a female had accomplished it. The announcement was made at the band's concert in Madison, and the reaction from the crowd was so massive that one fan's video of it went viral.
Albums "Into the Wild Life" and "Vicious" debuted on the Billboard top 10, but Halestorm's real sanctuary is on stage. They have evolved from opener status to headlining arena tours of their own, and in 2019, they expressed support for female artists by headlining a tour featuring only female-fronted bands.
Although COVID-19 forced them to close for the first time in 17 years, they remained busy by kickstarting the #RoadieStrong movement to support crew personnel and releasing "Reimagined", which featured collaborations like their duet with Evanescence's Amy Lee. They returned to full strength in 2023, selling out London's Wembley Arena and teaming up with producer Dave Cobb on new material for 2024.
