Jinjer Biography

You've got to love a metal band whose original lineup is completely gone but somehow got better with every change. That's Jinjer for you - born in Donetsk in 2008, but really found their sound when Tatiana Shmayluk stepped up to the mic in 2009. Add Roman Ibramkhalilov's guitar work to the mix, and suddenly this Ukrainian metal outfit was cooking with gas.

The early days were pure hustle - self-releasing EPs, touring on their own dime, and playing anywhere that would have them. Leaders Records finally noticed in 2012, but the real game-changer was "Cloud Factory" in 2014. Though even that came with drama - their drummer at the time, Mantulin, fell out of a third-story window and couldn't play anymore. Metal isn't supposed to be literal about being hardcore. "Pisces" dropped in 2016 and changed everything. Metal Hammer didn't just like it - they called it one of the century's greatest metal songs. By then, Vladislav Ulasevich had joined on drums, completing the lineup that's been crushing it ever since.

Their sound? It's like someone threw death metal, prog rock, and jazz in a blender and somehow it worked. Eugene Abdukhanov's five-string bass fills in the gaps since they dropped to one guitarist, and they're not afraid to throw some reggae or funk into the mix when you least expect it.

From Donetsk DIY shows to worldwide tours, from self-released EPs to being metal ambassadors for their nation - Jinjer keeps proving that sometimes the heaviest music comes from the heaviest times.
