Joe Jackson Biography

From the UKDavid Ian "Joe" Jackson, also known by his stage name Joe Jackson, is a multi-talented singer. Joe gained fame not only by a long road playing in clubs and studying music but mainly with his 1979 hit "Is She Really Going Out with Him?". He later shifted to a more "jazz-styled" pop, hitting a top 10 hit in 1982 with "Steppin' Out" and becoming part of the 1980s Second British Invasion of the US. Joe has also composed classical music, recorded 20 studio albums, and received five Grammy Award nominations.

Joe's first band, formed in Gosport, also in the UK, was called Edward Bear, later renamed Arms and Legs. The band broke up in 1976 after two unsuccessful singles. Initially known as David Jackson, he earned the nickname "Joe" due to his resemblance to the British TV puppet character Joe 90, and he legally changed his name to Joe at age 20. To fund a demo recording, Joe performed on the cabaret circuit.

In 1978, a record producer heard Joe's demo tape and signed him to A&M Records. The following year, the Joe Jackson Band released their debut album, "Look Sharp!." The single "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" reached the top 40 in five countries, including No. 9 only in Canada alone. The band also released the song  "I'm the Man" in 1979, which produced the hit single "It's Different for Girls," Joe's highest-charting UK single at No. 5.

In 1997, Joe tried a little bit of classical music, joining Sony Classical that same year. Later, he put out "Symphony No. 1" in 1999, and ended up winning a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Album in 2001.

In 2015, Joe revealed his new album, "Fast Forward," following up on 2012's "The Duke," through his website. The first song of the album, also called "Fast Forward," was available for streaming on his official page on SoundCloud, but unfortunately, the full album was removed a day later.
