Jorge Ben Jor Concerts Setlist

Known as "the father of samba rock," Jorge Ben Jor, born Jorge Duílio Lima Menezes, is considered to be one of the most important figures of the Brazilian music scene and popular for his unique style of samba, mixing other genres like rock and bossa nova. Jorge Ben Jor is known for hits like "Mas, que Nada!", and he inspired other heavy-weight artists like Caetano Veloso. Jorge was part of other Brazilian music movements like Bossa Nova, Jovem Guarda, and Tropicália.

Jorge Ben Jor came from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and his first stage name was Jorge Ben, but by the early 80s, he changed to Jorge Ben Jor. Jorge's interest in music started at an early age, by the age of 15 he started singing at a local church. Later, Jorge decided to perform at local nightclubs and performing during Brazil's Carnaval. Jorge then was introduced to Tim Maia by Erasmo Carlos.

Jorge Ben, after being reprimanded by "O Fino da Bossa", joined "Jovem Guarda" and later "Divino, Maravilhoso" with Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. By that time, his first appearances were at small events and music festivals, but quickly, the song "Mas, que Nada!" became a global hit and got covered by many artists such as the jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald.

By 63, Jorge debuted with the album "Samba Esquema Novo". In the 70s, Jorge released many projects like "A Tábua de Esmeralda" and "África Brasil", and by 2002, Jorge collaborated with other artists like Dead Prez. Jorge then received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Latin Recording Academy in 2005.
