LANY is an American pop rock band. They were founded in 2014 in Los Angeles, California. The founding members were lead vocalist and guitarist Paul Jason Klein (born in 1988 in Tulsa, Oklahoma), keyboardist Charles Leslie Priest (1983) and drummer Jake Clifford Goss (1987, Belmont, Massachusetts).
Former model Klein was a marginally successful solo musician. In 2014, he traveled to meet up with two of his friends, Goss and Priest who were part of a musical project WRLDS at the time. The three young musicians decided to form their own band, so they recorded some songs and uploaded them to the site Soundcloud. Despite having minimal following, they began to hear more music labels within 6 days. They released their debut EP (Extended Play) in 2014, with the title "Acronyms". The single "ILYSB" from it went somewhat viral on the internet. The band's name itself is an acronym, and it stands for the two biggest cities in the United States, Los Angeles and New York City.
The success of the EP gave the band the opportunity to go on multiple tours, which included appearances at the famous Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, Illinois. They were signed by Polydor Records in 2015. Their self-titled debut album, "LANY", came out in June 2017. It became a hit, peaking at the #32 spot on the Billboard 200 list.
Since then, the pop rock band has released 3 more studio albums, thus they have 4 in total. The best selling one among them so far has been "Mama's Boy" from October 2020, which peaked at the #7 spot on Billboard 200. Meanwhile, the latest new LANY album is titled "gg bb xx", which came out in September 2021.
LANY's biggest hits to date are the aforementioned "ILYSB" (2015), "Super Far" (2017), "13" (also 2017), and "Malibu Nights" (2018). They also co-wrote the 2019 hit single "Mean It" with American pop singer Lauv. In 2022, co-founder Leslie Priest decided to leave LANY.
