Ligabue Biography
An Italian factory worker in the '80s, writing lyrics between shifts and dreaming about the rockstar life, that's where Luciano Ligabue's story begins. Hailing from Correggio, Italy, while working the line, Ligabue played with a band called Orazero and served on his town council as a communist — not your typical rock star origin story. Everything changed when singer Pierangelo Bertoli discovered his talent and recorded "Sogni di Rock'n'Roll" in '88. By 1990, Ligabue had dropped his first album, and Italy had found its newest rock sensation.
His hit "Certe Notti" became so huge that fans voted it the best Italian song of the '90s. Not content with just music, he tried his hand at filmmaking. His first movie "Radiofreccia" was a smash hit, winning three major awards. By 2005, Ligabue made history with a massive concert in Reggio Emilia, drawing 180k fans, set as a European record for a single artist's paid show.
The rockstar has also written science fiction novels and some short stories. By the late '90s, Ligabue joined forces with other Italian artists to protest the Kosovo War through music, raising money for charity.
Coming from factory floor to huge gigs, Ligabue's story shows that sometimes the biggest rock stars come from the most unexpected places.
