Lord Huron Biography

Lord Huron is an American folk rock band. They were formed in 2010 in Los Angeles, California. The sole founding member is singer, guitarist, and harmonica player Ben Schneider (born in 1984 in Okemos, Michigan).

Schneider, a visual artist by trade, moved to Los Angeles from New York in 2005. In 2010, he started the solo musical project, “Lord Huron”. He recorded his first EP all alone, singing all the vocals and playing all the instruments. He named his act after Lake Huron, a lake in Michigan he used to visit while growing up. However, in order to be able to give live Lord Huron concert shows, he had to assemble a band around himself.

The Lord Huron debut album came out in October 2012, with the title “Lonesome Dreams”. By that time, the band was made up of founder Schneider as the lead vocalist, Brett Farkas as the lead guitarist, Tom Renaud as the rhythm guitarist, Miguel Briseño as the bassist, and Mark Barry as the drummer. This rock and folk record ended up being a moderate hit, reaching the #179 spot on Billboard 200.

Their second album, “Strange Trails” from April 2015, performed even better than that. It topped the chart by Billboard in the folk category, peaked at #2 in the rock category, and climbed to #23 on the overall Billboard 200. It remains their best selling record, with around 500,000 copies sold. They have released two more records since, “Vide Noir” in April 2018, and the latest new Lord Huron album, “Long Lost” in May 2021.

The biggest Lord Huron hits to date are "Ends of the Earth” (2012), “The Night We Met” (2015, a song that was featured on the Netflix show “13 Reasons Why”), “Meet Me in the Woods” (also 2015), and “When the Night Is Over” (2018). After some changes, their current line-up is made up of the same musicians as on their debut album. Check when the next Lord Huron album is playing near you on our page above.
