Louise Attaque Biography

Louise Attaque is a French chanson and folk rock band formed in 1994. The history of the band begins with Gaëtan Roussel, the lead singer, and Robin Feix, the bassist, who knew each other from high school in Montargis before moving to Paris to form a band with drummer Alexandre Margraff.

They knew violinist Arnaud Samuel from a recording session in a Parisian studio. The name of the band is a homage to the 19th-century anarchist Louise Michel and the American band Violent Femmes, whose guitarist and leader Gordon Gano would later produce their first album.

Their self-titled first album was released in April 1997 and would later sell 2.5 million copies in France, a record for a French rock album album that initially got little airplay on the radio. The second album, Comme On A Dit, was released in 2000 and sold 700,000 copies. The band split up in 2001, and two side projects emerged: Tarmac, formed by Roussel and Samuel, and Ali Dragon, formed by Feix and Margraff. The band reunited in 2003 and recorded their third album in Electric Lady Studios in New York City, releasing À Plus Tard Crocodile in 2005.
