Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., better known by his stage name Nelly, is an American rapper, singer, and actor. He was born on November 2, 1974 in Austin, Texas. Nelly was born in Texas to a military family - his father was in the Air Force. However, when he was just 7, his parents got divorced. He moved to University City near St. Louis, Missouri with his mother. While in high school there, he founded the hip hop collective “St. Lunatics”. The other members of the group were Ali, Murphy Lee, Kyjuan, City Spud, and Slo Down.
In 1996, the group put out their first local hit, “Gimme What Ya Got”. After another 3 years of having local success in Missouri, Nelly got signed by Universal Records. He was one of the few rappers to land a major label contract from the Midwest, as most big rappers come from the East or West Coasts.
Nelly’s debut album came out in June 2000, with the title “Country Grammar”. It became a massive hit, topping the famous Billboard 200 chart upon its release. The standout single on the record was the titular "Country Grammar (Hot Shit)". As a result, he started doing live Nelly concert shows in major venues across the US.
Since then, the Missourian hip hop star has released 7 more studio albums, thus he has 8 in total. The best selling one among them has remained his first one, “Country Grammar” from 2000, which sold a whopping 10 million copies in the US alone. The latest new Nelly album came out in August 2021, with the title “Heartland”. Meanwhile, he's also built up a considerable career in acting, having appeared in such movies as the 2005 comedy “The Longest Yard” and the 2014 drama “Reach Me”, as well as on the hit CBS show “CSI: NY”.
The biggest hits in the Nelly setlist to date are “Dilemma” (2002) featuring Kelly Rowland, “Hot in Herre” (also 2002), “Grillz” (2005) featuring Paul Wall and Ali & Gipp, and “Just a Dream” (2010). Check where the next Nelly concert is playing near you on our page above.
