Odesza, often stylized in all caps as ODESZA, is an American electronic music duo. They were formed in 2012 in Bellingham, Washington. The founding members are DJ’s Harrison “Catacombkid” Mills (born in 1989), and Clayton “BeachesBeaches” Knight (1988).
The two members both studied at Western Washington University, although majoring in different subjects. Knight was studying mathematics and physics, while Mills was studying graphic design. They started DJ’ing together in 2012. They named themselves “Odesza", after Mill’s uncle’s sunken vessel, which, in turn, was named after the Ukrainian city of Odessa. However, since that name was already taken by a Scottish synth band, they changed the spelling to Odesza.
Within a year of their formation, they released their first self-produced album, “Summer's Gone”, and performed their first live Odesza concert show in Bellingham, Washington, opening for Canadian DJ Teen Daze and the American alt rock band Beat Connection. By 2014, they were headlining their own nationwide Odesza concert tour.
The EDM duo’s first professionally produced album came out in September 2014, with the title “In Return” and through the labels Counter and Ninja Tune. It became a hit, topping Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and peaking at the #42 spot on the overall Billboard 200 chart. Since then, they have released 3 more studio albums, thus they have 4 in total. The best selling one among them is “A Moment Apart” from September 2017, which peaked at the #3 spot on Billboard 200. The latest new Odesza album came out in July 2022, titled “The Last Goodbye”.
The biggest hits in the Odesza setlist to date are “How Did I Get Here” (2012), “Say My Name” (2014) featuring Zyra, “Sun Models” (also 2014) featuring Madelyn Grant, and “A Moment Apart” (2017, same title as their album). In 2017, they were nominated in the Best Producer category at the Electronic Music Awards. Check when the next Odesza concert is playing near you on our page above.
