Polyphia Biography

In 2010, a handful of kids from Plano, Texas, created a band that would eventually upside-down the world of the guitar. Unsatisfied with merely playing fast, Polyphia wanted something entirely new. Taking their name from the concept of interweaving melodies, they've lived up to that promise in ways nobody could have seen coming.

They're the band that first burst into everyone's radars when their "Impassion" guitar play-through blew up on YouTube. Sure, plenty of young guitarists can shred, but Tim Henson and Scott LePage had that special something. Along with bassist Clay Gober and Clay Aeschliman behind drums, they press the instrumental rock thing into fresh ground.

Don't let the "instrumental band" moniker fool you: These guys aren't your run-of-the-mill guitar heroes. Having originated from metal roots, they've transformed into something without genre. Now their music combines elements of hip-hop, electronic, and progressive rock in ways that shouldn't work but do. It's like what would happen if a classical composer grew up on trap beats and shred guitar.

That experimentation has really paid off, from 2014's "Muse" to 2018's "New Levels New Devils," which finally landed them on the Billboard 200; each album pushes further than the last. By the time they dropped "Remember That You Will Die" in 2022, they were collaborating with everyone from guitar legend Steve Vai to rapper $NOT.
