ROSALÍA Biography

From studying flamenco in bars in Barcelona to becoming music's greatest innovator, Rosalía's career is far from normal. She was 14 and fell for Spanish folk, after which she threw herself headfirst into the study of musicology, performing at weddings between lessons. Even surgery on a vocal cord when she was 17 could not hinder her progress.

Her breakthrough release was "El Mal Querer" (2018), a college thesis album which nearly bankrupted but salvaged. From the small Barcelona flat and onto laptop and mic, she created something revolutionary - combining old flamenco with new pop and city beats. The album didn't simply peak onto the charts; it reached Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums, the first Spanish-language album to be on that tier.

When she released "Con Altura" in 2019, Rosalía proved that she could rule the world pop while not sacrificing artistic vision. Her 2022 album "Motomami" pushed further, blending reggaeton with experimentation to worldwide critical acclaim. She was the first female artist to win Album of the Year twice at the Latin Grammys, and her influence goes from TikTok memes to music festival royalty.

What's distinctive about Rosalía isn't just that she can genre-hop - it's that she gets to redefine everything that she works on. Whether collaborating with The Weeknd, Travis Scott, or Björk, she imposes her own vision upon the process, fusing conventional Spanish instruments with avant-garde production. From performing in front of 160k people in Mexico City's Zócalo to igniting fireworks displays in Barcelona, she's demonstrated that vision is endless.

With two Grammys, twelve Latin Grammys, and a status as one of the most powerful Spanish artists in history, Rosalía has fused old music with modern pop culture, never selling out in the process.
