Russell James Vitale, better known by his stage name Russ, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He was born on September 26, 1992 in Secaucus, New Jersey. While Russ was born in New Jersey into an Italian-American family, he grew up in Atlanta, Georgia down South. His father taught him to how to play the guitar at a very early age. Also at a very young age, 7, Russ took interest in hip hop music and started writing rap lyrics in a notebook. At age 14, he also started to produce beats with a friend of his named Bugus. And finally, at age 18, he recorded his first rap song.
In 2011, Bugus’ song “El Jefe” went viral which landed Russ and Bugus a brief spot on MTV. This gave Russ the confidence to drop out of college and found the music collective "Diemon" with his friend. The group was later joined by such artists as Dartlin, Paulo, and DJ Adam Golden. They produced a total of 11 studio albums together, all of which they put up on the internet for free, before Russ was eventually signed by Columbia Records.
In May 2017, they released his album “There's Really a Wolf”. It’s technically the twelvth addition in his catalog, but the first one that gained any significant commercial traction. It did quite well, actually, peaking at the #7 on the Billboard 200 list. After its release, he went on his very first Russ concert tour across the US called "The Wake Up Tour".
Since then, Russ has released 3 more albums, thus he has 15 in total. The best selling one among them is the aforementioned “There's Really a Wolf”. Meanwhile, the latest new Russ album came out in December 2021, with the title “Chomp 2”. He published this one through his own label, “Russ My Way”.
Russ’ biggest hits to date are “Goodbye” (2014) “Losin Control” (2015), “What They Want” (2017), and “Ride Slow” (also 2017). Also, interestingly, his eyes are two different colors, which is a condition known as heterochromia. Check where the nearest Russ concert is playing on the page above.
