Picture this: Germany, 1993 - a bunch of guys who started out remixing other people's tracks as "The Loop" decide to create something wild. Little did anyone know they'd become Germany's most successful single-record act ever, with H.P. Baxxter's unmistakable shouts leading the charge through 30 million records sold.
From their first hit "Hyper Hyper" (which was only supposed to be a club track - surprise!), Scooter turned happy hardcore into stadium anthems. Ever heard someone yell "HOW MUCH IS THE FISH?" at a rave? That's their doing. They've got more gold and platinum records than most people have regular ones - we're talking 80 awards and counting.
The band's been through more chapters than a fantasy novel - seven of them, actually. Each one brought new faces and fresh sounds, from happy hardcore to trance to whatever you'd call "The Question Is What Is The Question?" But H.P. Baxxter stayed put, keeping that signature shout-rapping style that makes Scooter, well, Scooter.
They've had some wild moments too - like unexpectedly knocking Madonna off the UK album charts in 2008 with "Jumping All Over The World." Or that time in 2009 when Baxxter nearly got caught in a car bomb attack while shooting a video in Majorca.
This day and age, things are no different - still movement (Paul Oakenfold and The Prodigy for one). Especially when Jay Frog came back earlier this year after a sixteen-year layoff from the business. Still with Marc Blou bringing up the rear though new juices feed in. In 2023, Universal Music just got their whole back catalog. That shows there's still a ton of life in this rave machine that changed the world.
From underground remixers to techno legends, from "RESPECT TO THE MAN IN THE ICE CREAM VAN" to selling out arenas - Scooter's story is basically what happens when German efficiency meets rave culture and somehow works perfectly.
