Selda Bağcan Concerts Setlist

Born in Muğla, Turkey, Selda Bağcan is a Turkish folk singer and producer. Selda Bağcan has released numerous albums and performed concerts across Turkey and worldwide. Currently residing in the country's biggest city, Istanbul, the folk music star manages the music production company Majör Müzik Yapım, and her work has been sampled by musicians and hip-hop artists Mos Def, and Dr. Dre.

Selda to a family of diverse origins. Her father, Selim, hailed from Bitola, Macedonia, and was of Macedonian Turk descent, while her mother, a teacher, had Crimean Tatar roots. Raised alongside her brothers, Selda started playing the mandolin at the age of 5, inspired by her father's love for music.

Her career began in 1971, during her final year at university, with the support of Ankara-based music producer Erkan Özerman. That year, Selda Bağcan released six singles featuring traditional Turkish folk songs. One year later, she was chosen by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to represent Turkey in the prestigious international Golden Orpheus song contest.

From 1971 to 1980, she released twelve more singles and three LP records, touring extensively across Turkey and Western Europe. Known for her songs' strong social criticism and support for the poor and working class, Bağcan gained a devoted following among left-wing activists and sympathizers during the politically turbulent 1970s.

In late 2000, she survived a severe car accident en route to a concert in Antakya, sustaining multiple fractures and injuries, but eventually made a full recovery after extensive treatment. Despite being unable to join physically, she expressed solidarity with the Gezi Park protests in 2013 while performing in Belgium.
