Seventeen, written as 세븐틴 in Korean and sometimes abbreviated as SVT, is a South Korean pop band. They were formed in 2013 in Seoul, South Korea. The founding and only members to ever be part of the band are rappers S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, and Vernon; vocalists Woozi, Jeonghan, Joshua, Dokyeom aka DK, and Seungkwan; as well as dancers and vocalists Hoshi, Jun, The8, and Dino.
The group “Seventeen” started regularly appearing on a web series “Seventeen TV” in 2013, streaming on the live broadcast platform UStream. They were put together by the entertainment company Pledis Entertainment. Their name is derived from the fact that there are 13 members in the 1 band, who are put into 3 units (hip hop, vocals, and performance units). 13+3+1 equals 17.
In 2015, they starred in the reality show “Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan” on the public Korean TV channel MBC. Soon after that, they released their debut EP (Extended Play) called “17 Carat”, which went on to become a major success, both in South Korea and the United States. They also had a 4-show live Seventeen concert series held in Seoul at the end of the year. Their full debut album came out in April 2016, with the title “Love & Letter”. It became quite a hit, peaking at #3 on Billboard’s World Albums chart and #5 on their new artist-specific Heatseekers chart.
Since then, the Korean boy band has released 3 more albums, thus they have 4 in total. The best selling one among them is the latest new Seventeen album, “Face the Sun” from May 2022, which sold 2.825 million copies in their home country of South Korea alone. The biggest hits in the Seventeen setlist to date are “Very Nice” (2016), “Don’t Wanna Cry” (2017), “Clap” (also 2017), and “Left & Right” (2020). The members of this band are known to be more involved in the songwriting process than other K-pop groups. Check when the next Seventeen concert is playing near you on our page above.
