Sticky Fingers Biography

Sticky Fingers is an Australian indie rock band. They were formed in 2008 in Sydney, Australia. The founding members were lead singer and guitarist Dylan Frost, bassist and vocalist Paddy Cornwall, and drummer Beaker Best.

Cornwall and Best saw Frost playing music on the street for change in front of a Coopers Hotel in Newtown, Australia. Impressed with what they heard, they asked him to join their new band. They started doing early Sticky Fingers concert shows in 2008, and in 2009, they released their first EP (Extended Play), a reggae-influenced rock record with the title “Helping Hand”. They went on to produce two more EP’s in the upcoming two years.

In 2010, they got rejected as performers by the Newtown Festival for the second time in a row. Definitely, they set up a DIY stage in one of their friends’ backyard who lived near the festival site. Their stunt got the attention of music producer Dan Hume, who agreed to produce their next three records. Also, they got to do their live Sticky Fingers concert show at Newtown Festival the next year.

Their debut album came out in March 2013, with the title “Caress Your Soul”. By that time, keyboardist Daniel “Freddy Crabs” Neurath, and lead guitarist Seamus Coyle were added to the line-up as well. The record became a moderate hit, peaking at the #39 spot on the ARIA chart in Australia.

Since then, the Aussie indie rock band has put out 4 more studio albums, thus they have 5 in total. The best selling one among them has remained their first one, “Caress Your Soul” from 2013, which sold around 85,000 copies worldwide. Meanwhile, the latest new Sticky Fingers album came out in April 2022, with the title “Lekkerboy”. The band was on hiatus between 2016 and 2018 due to unspecified “internal issues”, but those issues are now resolved and they are back together.

The biggest hits in the Sticky Fingers setlist to date are “Happy Endings” (2011), “How to Fly” (2013), “Australia Street” (also 2013), and “Cyclone” (2020). They had to face quite a controversy in the middle of 2018. The Australian public radio Triple J banned all Sticky Fingers songs off of their airways after it came to light that their lead singer Frost racially and sexually harassed an indigenous Australian female musician. However, that ban was lifted by April 2020.
