Vasco Rossi Biography

Born in Zocca, ItalyVasco Rossi is not only a well-known singer but also a poetVasco Rossi is also known by only Vasco, or Il Blasco and he has released 30 albums and written over 250 songs, including lyrics for other artists. Vasco often calls himself a "provoking author," which he indeed is, mainly because he often receives criticism for his different lifestyle. With over 35 million copies sold worldwide, he is one of Italy's best-selling singers. One interesting fact is that Vasco's Modena Park 2017 concert set the record for the highest-attended ticketed concert ever.

Vasco came from a very simple family, his father was a truck driver, and his mother was a housewife. His mother enrolled him in singing school, which made Vasco start to have some interest in music. Vasco later, of course, fell in love with music and started playing in a band at 14. The family moved to Bologna, where Vasco studied accounting in high school. Vasco supported himself by working as a DJ and helped start one of Italy's first private radio stations, Punto Radio, where he began sharing his own songs.

In 1997, Vasco released his first EP, and one year later, his first full album "Ma cosa vuoi che sia una canzone" came out. One year later, one more album came out, this time with a very peculiar name, "Non siamo mica gli americani," meaning "We're certainly not Americans."

In the early 80s, he released "Colpa d'Alfredo," which was controversial due to the song's lyrics about women, which eventually led to censorship and criticism but also increased his popularity, which was good for him.

5 years later, in 84, Vasco released his first live album, "Va bene, va bene cosi," but unfortunately, maintaining the controversy on his name, that same year Vasco was arrested for drug possession and sentenced to probation. He then released "Cosa succede in città," which was not well-received.

In 87, his ninth album, "C'è chi dice no," marked the start of his performances in large arenas and stadiums. A year later, and with his tenth album released, the successful 1989 tour led to the live album "Fronte del palco," selling over 300k units, and two major concerts in 1990 at San Siro in Milan and Flaminio in Rome.

Fast forward to 2010, Vasco released a new album, "Sono innocente." During the recording sessions, Vasco wrote the lyrics for a song with music by Foo FightersDave Grohl, which was included in a compilation for Grohl's music project.
