Top10 Worldwide Music Selection from Concerty - August 2024

Another summer has passed, so let's take a collective listen to some of the big hits of summer 2024, particularly the ones that were popular in August on Spotify in different parts of the world.

Karol G - Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido (COLOMBIA)

Karol G is one of the shining examples of Latin American musical artists getting international recognition more and more often. She has made a number of entries to the famous Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the largest consumer market in the world, the US - five, to be exact, and she has charted as high as #7 on the list.

This recent summer hit by her, “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” is yet to make it on Billboard. However, it’s been ranking high on Spotify charts all summer. And just in her home country of Colombia, but on the global chart as well.

Lady Gaga - Die With a Smile feat. Bruno Mars (NEW ZEALAND)

The eccentric American pop diva of the late 2000s and early 2010s, Lady Gaga is back on the top of charts. She is coming with a more traditional aesthetic, not for the first time, and a soulful, sweet, romantic ballad featuring Bruno Mars. For a featured artist, Mars, another singer who was a lot more popular in the past decade, gets a lot of the spotlight, both on the track and in the music video as well.

And he earns all that screentime with a wonderful, powerful, yet still smooth vocal performance. Gaga is also delivering her part of the performance, matching Mars’ in style and quality, and in perfect harmony with his singing. This song has been popular in many English-speaking countries, including New Zealand.

Lola Indigo - LA REINA (SPAIN)

Spanish singer-dancer Lola Indigo originally got big in 2018 on the Spanish reality-talent show Operación Triunfo. Despite only coming in 16th place, her career got kickstarted on the program, and she managed to book a series of live shows afterwards. Her debut album "Akelarre" ended up topping the charts in 2019. Her career is still going strong, as evidenced by her recent release “LA REINA” which charted high all last month among Spanish Spotify users.

TEN - Nighwalker (THAILAND)

Up next, we have a talented young man from Thailand for you, TEN. While he was born in Thailand, he moved to South Korea as a teenager to further pursue his dreams in music. Thus, his new track “Nightwalker” technically qualifies as a K-pop song. However, his fans back in his home country did not forget him either, and this song was a hit in Thailand as well.

Luísa Sonza - Sagrado Profano feat. KayBlack (PORTUGAL)

Brazilian pop star Luísa Sonza’s new cut “Sagrado Profano” has been a popular listen in the other major Portuguese-speaking country as well, Portugal. This one has a more serious tone than your regular “bubblegum” pop song, with a black and white music video - or, rather, visualizer - to match that vibe. It also features a couple verses from local rapper KayBlack.

Mert Demir - Ölüyorum Anla (TURKEY)

Mert Demir is one of the most successful musical acts in Turkey, with an illustrious career spanning nearly a decade now. Seeing his name near the top of the charts in the country is no surprise. This time, he is up there with his indie pop single “Ölüyorum Anla,” released back in June.

Roxy Dekker - Gaan We Geg? feat. Ronnie Flex (NETHERLANDS)

“Are we going, Geg?” Roxy Dekker asks in her latest hit single’s title “Gaan We Geg?,” at least according to Google Translate. The song itself is an upbeat, dancy, perhaps a bit overproduced pop tune by the Dutch artist, linked below for you to take a listen for yourself.

Averagekidluke - Vitun hyvin feat. Turisti (FINLAND)

Meanwhile, even further north in Europe, in Finland, Averagekidluke had a winner for the short Nordic summer. There is nothing average about his track “Vitum hyvin’s” performance on the Spotify charts, where it has been trending high in Finland ever since its release a few weeks ago.

Bernadya - Satu Bulan (INDONESIA)

In Indonesia, a song from last summer is still trending high among local Spotify listeners. That song is none other than “Satu Buran” by local pop singer Bernadya.

ILLIT - Magnetic (TAIWAN)

And at last, we have a fresh, hot new K-pop girl band straight out of the oven. ILLIT was formed earlier this year, and their debut EP came out just this March. Yet they are already making a splash all across Asia, including Taiwan.

What separates them from all the other popular K-pop girl groups out there? To be fair, not much. Their origin story follows the tried-and-true formula: the members were recruited by a giant entertainment company (chosen through a reality show this time, which is also not unique), then “groomed” to be the next big pop sensation. The music style is also nothing that would be out of place for, let’s say, NewJeans. What some critics have pointed out as the new group’s special strength in the K-pop scene is their dancing skills.
