Beabadoobee Biography
Beatrice Kristi Laus, better known by her stage name Beabadoobee, is a Filipino-British singer and songwriter. She was born on June 3, 2000 in Iloilo City, Philippines. Laus moved to London, United Kingdom from The Philippines with her family at age 3. Growing up, she listened to traditional music from her homeland, as well as indie rock bands, such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Karen O, and Florist. She learnt to play the violin at age 10, then got a guitar and taught herself to play through YouTube tutorials at age 17. She was expelled in her last year of high school due to bad grades and disruptive behavior.
Also aged 17, she started to upload videos of her playing the guitar to YouTube under the name “Beabadoobee”, both covers and originals. One of her cover songs, “The Moon Song” by Karen O, received 300,000 views. This caught the attention of someone at Dirty Hit Records, and the label signed her in 2018. She released 3 EP’s (Extended Plays) before the end of 2018, then went on her first nationwide Beabadoobee concert tour in 2019, supporting the American singer Cairo on her UK tour.
Her debut album came out in October 2020, with the title “Fake It Flowers”. It became quite a hit, peaking at the #8 spot on the OCC chart in the UK, while also breaking into the famous Billboard 200 list over in the US, reaching the #189 spot. The new Beabadoobee album, “Beatopia” from July 2022, did even better. It reached the #4 spot on the British OCC chart.
The biggest hits in the Beabadoobee setlist to date are “Coffee” (2017), “If You Want To” (2018), and “Dance With Me” (also 2018).
