David Gilmour Concerts Setlist

Born in Cambridge, UK, David Jon Gilmour, also known by his stage name, David Gilmour is a guitarist and singer famous for his solo career and his work with Pink Floyd. With David, the rock band became one of the most successful acts in music history. After Roger Waters left in 1985, David led the band through three more albums.

David's interest in music began early, inspired by Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, and the Everly Brothers. He taught himself guitar using a Pete Seeger book and record set. At 11, he started attending Perse School in Cambridge, where he met future Pink Floyd members Syd Barrett and Roger Waters.

In 67, Pink Floyd released their debut album, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn," with David's schoolmates. During a brief London visit that May, Gilmour saw Barrett, who was struggling with mental health issues, record "See Emily Play" but didn't recognize him. Later that year, David joined Pink Floyd, initially only as a replacement while Barrett remained a non-performing songwriter.

In 85, Waters tried to disband Pink Floyd, calling them "a spent force creatively." Gilmour and Mason decided to continue, and Waters officially left in 1987, making David the leader. He also produced Pink Floyd's "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" in 87.

David co-wrote five tracks, including "Short and Sweet," for Roy Harper's album "The Unknown Soldier." Harper later appeared at David’s Hammersmith Odeon gig in 84 to perform the song. Harper also provided backing vocals on David's album "About Face" 84. One year later, David played on Bryan Ferry's album "Boys and Girls." He also performed with Ferry at Live Aid and contributed to Pete Townshend's "White City: A Novel" and Grace Jones's "Slave to the Rhythm."

As a very important member of Pink Floyd, David was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the UK Music Hall of Fame. He was later named Commander of the Order of the British Empire and received the Outstanding Contribution award at the Q Awards.

With a very successful career, David has been involved in various social causes and has married twice, with eight children. Something very curious and interesting is that his wife, novelist Polly Samson, has written lyrics for many of his songs.
