For KING & COUNTRY Biography
Formed by the brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, for KING + COUNTRY, (or For King & Country) is a Christian pop duo famous for being named a "New Artist to Watch," by Billboard and likened to Coldplay. An interesting fact is that before forming For KING + COUNTRY, brothers Joel, and Luke Smallbone supported their sister, Rebecca St. James, with background vocals and other roles. The band made it so big that during their career they won Grammys and collaborated with artists like Dolly Parton and Timbaland.
For KING + COUNTRY's debut name was actually Joel & Luke, and later Austoville, before settling on their current name. In 2008, they released a six-song EP titled "A Tale of Two Towns," At that time, the duo was still known as Joel & Luke. One year later, already under the name For KING + COUNTRY, the duo signed a major deal with a record label.
By 2012, For KING + COUNTRY released "Crave," which received really positive reviews from many critics. The duo went on tour to support the album and even appeared on Fox News' Huckabee show. Two years later, the brothers released "Run Wild. Live Free. Love Strong," which did pretty well and peaked at number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart.
In 2024, released the film "Unsung Hero," a biopic about their family's move from Australia to Nashville, which Joel Smallbone wrote, directed, and starred in.
An interesting fact is that the duo's name, For KING + COUNTRY, was inspired by a British battle cry. Also, during their careers, the brothers also did some very interesting "side quests," like Joel appearing in the film The Book of Esther, and their music being featured on world-famous TV dramas like Vampire Diaries.
