Frank Ocean Biography

Born in Long Beach, USA, Frank Ocean is a singer not only known for revolutionizing the alternative R&B genre, but he is also the winner of two Grammy Awards and a Brit Award for International Male Solo Artist. Frank Ocean, whose real name is Christopher Edwin Breaux, began his career very differently from other rappers, Breaux started as a ghostwriter, before joining the hip-hop collective Odd Future in 2010.

Breaux grew up listening to hip-hop, rhythm and blues, soul, and rap, but a major influence came from his family as well. His dad, Calvin Edward Cooksey, was a singer and keyboardist. Besides his love for music, Breaux had a turbulent childhood and struggled a lot to get where he is today, from his little brother passing away, to the divorce of his parents when he was six years old, and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in August 2005.

In 2006, Breaux moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of music, in a short period, he was already writing songs for Justin Bieber, John Legend, Beyoncé, and Brandy. He also established himself as a songwriter under the name Lonny Breaux. Breaux later chose the name Frank Ocean. According to him, he chose this name because he liked Frank Sinatra and the movie Ocean's 11 from the 1960s, where Sinatra was the main actor.

In 2011, Breaux elevated his name even more to the mainstream spot, collaborating with artists like Jay-Z, Kanye West, and others. His most famous songs like "Thinking Bout You," "Novacane," and "Pyramids" are well-known examples of his talent. They demonstrate his skill in telling emotional stories and singing in a way that grabs your attention.

Breaux is also very well known to be headlining music festivals all around the world, one cannot disagree that Frank Ocean is the face of the Coachella Music Festival.

Breaux is also very into fashion, being always spotted in fashion shows with other artists. On August 8, 2021, Frank Ocean shared his first fashion project called "Homer." He first mentioned it in an interview with the Financial Times.
