SZA Biography

Solána Imani Rowe, also known by her stage name, SZA, is a worldwide known singer famous for songs like "All the Stars," with Kendrick Lamar, and "Kill Bill." SZA's debut album, "Ctrl," was released in 2017 and it was the singer's breakout and the door to success. During her ongoing and extremely successful career, SZA won four Grammys and has written songs for artists like Rihanna, and even Beyoncé. As of 2024, she received the Hal David Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

SZA was born in St. Louis, a small city in the U.S., and raised in a New Jersey city called Maplewood. She was raised as a Muslim and attended Muslim prep school. Is known that the soon-to-be-a-star singer was very active in sports, very smart, and dedicated to her studies.

SZA started singing in 2011, after an event where she met Top Dawg Entertainment. Her early songs were recorded in a very simple way, using beats that she and her friends downloaded from the internet. Her debut EP, which was a self-release, was called "See.SZA.Run," and it was released in 2012. Right after that, she released "S" in 2013. After signing with TDE, she toured with Little Dragon and released "Teen Spirit" and its remix with 50 Cent. In 2014, she released a new EP called "Z."

SZA's debut album, "Ctrl," debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and received critical acclaim, with singles like "Love Galore" achieving platinum status. The album was so successful that she even collaborated with Maroon 5.

2018 was a very important year for SZA, her song "All the Stars" for the Black Panther soundtrack, became a hit. The collaboration with the rapper Kendrick Lamar was extremely important and strategic for SZA's career and brought her one step further inside the mainstream zone.

In 2019, SZA featured on DJ Khaled's track "Just Us" from his album "Father of Asahd." After that, one year later, she also collaborated on other projects with Justin Timberlake, Ty Dolla $ign, and Doja Cat.

More recently, SZA proved to be not only a star in the music industry but also on social media. Her song "I Hate U," went viral on TikTok and on Instagram Reels.

A fun fact that you might not know is that SZA's stage name is inspired by the Supreme Alphabet and Wu-Tang Clan's RZA, with "S" standing for savior (or sovereign).
