Hayko Cepkin is a Turkish singer and songwriter. He was born on March 11, 1978 in Istanbul, Turkey. Cepkin is from a family of Armenian descent. After graduating high school, he spent a few years taking singing and piano lessons at Mimar Sinan University, while also attending the Timur Selcuk Contemporary Music Center for singing and music theory. With his formal music education, he was able to make a living as a songwriter and pianist.
However, at some point in his career, he decided he had enough of working for other artists and launched his solo career. In June 2005, he released his debut rock album “Sakin Olmam Lazım” (“I Need to Stay Calm” in English). While it was published by the British music label EMI, the production of the songs took place entirely in Cepkin’s home studio. Despite its moderate success, Cepkin later stated he does not consider this one a real album of his.
For his second studio album, “Tanışma Bitti” (“Meet Over”) from May 2007, he switched up his style. While he still included alt rock tracks, he also produced metal songs, and the entire project was horror-themed. He also ramped up the production quality. Thus, these days, you can expect mostly metal songs at any Hayko Cepkin concert.
Since then, the Turkish metal singer has put out 4 more studio albums, thus he has 6 in total. The latest new Hayko Cepkin album is topically titled “Karantina Günlüğü” (“Quarantine Diary”) which came out in 2020 and was co-published by fellow Turkish singer Burak Malçok.
Hayko Cepkin's biggest hits to date are “Firtinam” (“My Storm”, 2005), “Ölüyorum” (“I’m Dying", 2007), and “Aldırma Gönül” (“Never Mind the Heart", 2016). He was also featured on the 2018 hit single by Turkish actor and singer Kubilay Aka, “Gamzendeki Çukur” (“The Pit in Your Dimple”).
On top of all that, he also composed the soundtrack for the 2006 Turkish movie "Araf", and was a judge on the 2010 reality-talent show Rock’n’ Dark. Check when the next Hayko Cepkin concert is playing near you on our page above.
