Formed by Gianluca Ginoble, Piero Barone, and Ignazio Boschetto, Il Volo is a pop trio from Italy. Il Volo describes their music as popera and gained fame for winning the 2015 edition of the Sanremo Music Festival. But before winning the festival, the group had already been on the road for over 6 years. Formed in 2009, the trio was created during "Ti lascio una canzone," an Italian TV show. Their performance together caught the attention of a major producer which led them to sign their first record deal.
By 2010, Il Volo released their first album, with the Spanish version of the album having some great results, earning them Latin Grammy nominations. One year later, Il Volo released "Christmas Favorites" and performed on The Tonight Show. A very interesting fact is that the group was first called "I Tre Tenorini" and then "The Tryo," but later, they settled on the name "Il Volo," meaning "the flight."
In 2012, the popera trio released their second album, named "We Are Love." The album had songs featuring artists like Plácido Domingo and Eros Ramazzotti. After performances at the Rockefeller Center tree lighting in NYC and the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, in 2013, "Más Que Amor," the Spanish version of the album "We Are Love," was released.
One year later, Il Volo released a Christmas album that featured artists like Pia Toscano and Belinda. In 2014, they received two Latin Billboard Music Award nominations, winning Best Group in Latin Pop Albums and El Pulso Social award.
By 2019, The trio was back once again at the Sanremo Music Festival, finishing third. They released their fifth album "Musica" that same year and quickly headed to a world tour that started in Japan.
