From Oviedo, Spain, Ramón Melendi Espina, also known by his stage name, Melendi, very famous within the rock and flamenco music genres. Melendi went to school with Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso, to whom he dedicated the song "Magic Alonso." In 2001, After trying racing and football, he joined "El bosque de Sherwood" and recorded a three-song demo.
In 2003, Melendi released his first solo album, "Sin noticias de Holanda," which was re-released in December with two new songs. He gained fame in 2004 when his song "Con la luna llena" became the official theme of the Vuelta a España. His second album, "Que el cielo espere sentao," released in 2005, sold over 200,000 copies and included new songs and a live DVD. That year, he also received the Onda award for Best Song of the Year and seven Platinum Discs for his two albums.
In 2006, Melendi starred in the PSP game "Gangs of London" as Mr. Big and wrote its theme song. He also composed "Volveremos" for Real Oviedo and produced the film "Vuelvo a traficar." His album "Mientras no cueste trabajo" was released in 2006, featuring 12 songs, and a special edition with 16 songs and a DVD. The album was re-released in 2009 with four new tracks.
One year later, Melendi won the "Best Tour" award from the "Premios de la Música" and did a campaign for Canal+ Spain with the song "Me gusta el fútbol." He faced trial for causing a disturbance on a flight due to alcohol but was released after testifying. He also received the "Left Foot" award from Cadena 100.
In 2008, Melendi was already really popular within the flamenco genre, he then released the album "Curiosa la cara de tu padre" and its single "Un violinista en tu tejado." One year later, he released a double CD, "Aún más curiosa la cara de tu padre," with nine new songs.
In 2016, Melendi released "Quítate las gafas," featuring ChocQuibTown. The album included singles like "Desde Que Estamos Juntos," "La Casa No Es Igual," "Destino o Casualidad," and "Yo Me Veo Contigo." In 2017, he collaborated with Ha*Ash on a remix of "Destino o Casualidad" and released the compilation album "Yo me veo contigo."
With a very successful path, Melendi now directs Blue Donkey Music, helping young artists like Algunos Hombres Buenos and Los Susodichos, the latter nominated for a Latin Grammy.
