Mustafa Ceceli Biography

From a veterinary student to one of the most influential music producers and performers in Turkey, Mustafa Ceceli's path illustrates how success can be attained by following your passion. Born in 1980, Ceceli first caught the music bug playing for his high school band but eventually decided to take a more traditional path and enrolled in Ankara University to study veterinary medicine.

Yet his heart continued to pull him back into music. In one fearless leap, he forsook veterinary studies in favor of a business management track at Yeditepe University. That turned out to be a life-altering move-the one that helped him meet esteemed producer Ozan Doğulu and start working with Turkish music legend Sezen Aksu, thus entering Turkey's professional musical arena.

In 2009, Ceceli struck out on his own with the self-titled debut album, but what ultimately distinguishes Ceceli in Turkey's musical topography is not his performances per se; rather, he has become one of the country's most sought-after producers and arrangers, his hand in no less than over twenty top-ten hits for various artists. His talent hasn't gone unnoticed, earning him Turkey Music Awards for "Best Album" and "Best Male Artist" in both 2010 and 2014.

One interesting turn taken by Ceceli's career was when, in 2018, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan personally asked him to compose "The Turkey Anthem" for the country's military operation in Afrin. The high-profile commission underlined his status as more than just a pop musician: he was an important cultural figure in modern Turkey.
