Negramaro Biography
In 1999, musicians from Copertino, near Lecce in Italy, formed one of the most successful Italian pop rock bands: Negramaro-named after Negroamaro, a wine from Salento, their native region-a name that would hint at their deep bond with their roots.
Smooth sailing it wasn't. The band's self-titled 2003 debut proved too alternative for mainstream Italian tastes, but things started looking up when they met producer Corrado Rustici in 2004. With him, they began honing a more radio-friendly pop-rock sound and had their debut re-issued as "000577" with new tracks and remixes.
The real breakthrough came along quite unexpectedly. Although it was eliminated during the first round of the 2005 Sanremo Music Festival, "Mentre Tutto Scorre" proved to be an overwhelming hit. The next year, eight of their songs were selected to appear on the film soundtrack "La Febbre," exposing them even more. Then, with their next single "Estate", it rocketed to the top in the Italian radio and suddenly Negramaro was on a wave of success to which they'd been working towards for years.
Success after success came with albums such as "Casa 69" and "La rivoluzione sta arrivando," topping Italian charts during the 2010s. The even temporary breakup in 2016, due to artistic disagreements between its vocalist Giuliano Sangiorgi and keyboardist Andrea Mariano, didn't manage to hold them back. Actually, it was that very period of time that Sangiorgi moved to New York and gave him the new inspiration that contributed to their further material.
