Roland Kaiser is a German Schlager singer. He was born on May 10th, 1952 in West Berlin, West Germany. He grew up with a foster mother in the capitalist side of Germany in the Cold War era. His first job was a car salesman at a Ford dealership as a teenager; then he moved into marketing, then journalism. His musical talent was discovered by music producers Gerhard Kämpfe and Thomas Meisel, after Kaiser picked up singing cover songs at small pubs and private parties as a hobby.
His first single came out in 1974, with the title “Was ist wohl aus ihr geworden?” (meaning “What has become of her?” in English). However, it failed to gain any significant commercial success. His breakthrough came 2 years after his debut single, with the release of “Frei, das heißt allein (Verde),” which was a cover of German guitarist Ricky King’s song “Verde”, and which established him as a rising star in the Schlager scene.
In May 1980, Kaiser put out his biggest hit, “Santa Maria”. It was the first single of his to top the local singles chart in his home country of Germany.
He is a very prolific artist, having released a total of 29 (!) full-length studio albums during his long career. The first one was “Verde – Frei – Das heißt allein,” released in November 1976. Meanwhile, the latest new Roland Kaiser album came out as recently as February 2025, with the title “Marathon”.
He has also dabbled in acting, appearing in two movies: “Tatort: Summ, Summ, Summ” (2013), and “Eisland” (2021).
The biggest hits in the Roland Kaiser setlist to date are the aforementioned “Santa Maria” (1980), “Joana” (1984), “Warum hast Du nicht nein gesagt” featuring Maite Kelly (2014), and “Kein Problem” (2021). You can check when the next Roland Kaiser concert is playing near you on the page above.
