Slayer Biography
Slayer is an iconic thrash metal band hailing from Huntington Park, California. The band was founded in 1981 by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, along with bassist/vocalist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo. Embracing a relentless, aggressive musical style, Slayer quickly became synonymous with the extreme metal genre, carving out a reputation for their unapologetically intense sound and uncompromising approach to music.
The band catapulted to fame through their groundbreaking contributions to the thrash metal movement of the 1980s. With the release of influential albums such as "Reign in Blood" and "South of Heaven," Slayer solidified their position as one of the most distinctive and extreme thrash metal bands of the era.
Slayer's discography boasts an array of legendary songs, like "Raining Blood," "Angel of Death," and "South of Heaven" which stand as enduring anthems within the metal community, albums such as "Seasons in the Abyss" and "Hell Awaits" further exemplify Slayer's profound impact on the evolution of thrash metal music.
Slayer has an impressive discography, including twelve studio albums, three live albums, a box set, six music videos, two extended plays, and a cover album. According to Nielsen SoundScan data from 1991 to 2013, Slayer sold over 5 million copies in the United States and exceeded 20 million worldwide. Additionally, the band has been recognized with five Grammy Award nominations, clinching victories in 2007 for "Eyes of the Insane" and in 2008 for "Final Six," both tracks from the album "Christ Illusion" (2006).
Many influential bands have cited Slayer as a major inspiration, including Cannibal Corpse, Sepultura, Children of Bodom, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine, System of a Down, Slipknot, and many others. Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser asserted that "without Slayer, Sepultura would never be possible."
On January 22, 2018, Slayer made a significant announcement: they revealed their farewell world tour. This announcement came through a video showcasing a montage of press clippings, early posters, and press photos that encapsulated the band's entire career. In 2019, guitarist Kerry King's wife Ayesha stated on her Instagram page that there is "not a chance in hell" that Slayer would ever reunite to perform more shows or release new music.

Things are different for Slayer. They are like the "underground" of mainstream for extreme metal/trash metal. Iron Maiden & Metallica are like showrunners, they just get up on stage do their thing and back to hotel, but slayer is not that rich band

Exactly. This is so disrespectful to fans. I've been a die-hard fan my whole life, went to a bunch of concerts, and now all they do is release stupid merch. I doubt anyone buys it

Wouldn't you do the same if you were in their position? These guys are too exhausted for anything—albums or tours—they just don't want it anymore. However, they still have the BRAND, which they can and must monetize.

You don't really understand the concept of a band, do you? They have every right to retire. My initial question was only if they were planning to have a reunion tour. But in case they don't, I don't mind. As for the merch thing, get over it. This is part of the contract and has nothing to do with the band
