The Chainsmokers Biography
From becoming Viral on the internet to the top spot of global mainstream, The Chainsmokers is an EDM duo from NYC. Drew Taggart and Alex Pall created a very unique style mixing electronic music, pop, and dance. Alex and Drew went viral with their 2014 song "#Selfie," reaching the top twenty in many countries, Forbes also listed The Chainsmokers as the highest-paid DJs, surpassing Calvin Harris after his six-year reign.
Following the huge success of #Selfie, The Chainsmokers scaled up once again with the single "Roses," which reached the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and has over 300M views on its music-only video on YouTube, note that this is not even the music's video, but the audio-only format, showing everyone how big this song is till today.
"Don't Let Me Down" (1.8 billion streams on Spotify as of 2024) featuring Daya, and "Closer" (2.7 billion streams on Spotify as of 2024) featuring Halsey were also new viral moments for the duo. "Don't Let Me Down," became their first top-five single on the Billboard chart and won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. "Closer," became their first number-one single on the Billboard chart.
In 2016 The Chainsmokers released "All We Know," featuring Phoebe Ryan, on that same year, they were ranked 18th on DJ Magazine's annual list of the "Top 100 DJs," moving up from their debut position of 97th in 2014. One year later, the duo went certified gold in Canada and the US with the single "Paris" (1.1 billion streams on Spotify as of 2024).
2017 was also a big year for the boys. The Chainsmokers released their collaborative single with Coldplay, titled "Something Just Like This." The song quickly became a major hit all around the world, amounting to over 2 billion streams on Spotify and 2.2 billion views on YouTube.
The duo dropped the single "Who Do You Love," featuring 5 Seconds of Summer, in 2019, along with a lyric video on YouTube. The song received 2x platinum certification in Canada and platinum certification in the US, making it the most successful single from The Chainsmokers' third album, "World War Joy."
It's also good to remember that Alex and Drew rose to fame with the help of the Soundcloud era, which brought together many rappers and underground artists. That's why, till today, the duo are super active on the platform.
In 2022, The Chainsmokers revealed "High" as the lead single from their fourth studio album, "So Far So Good."
Until today, The Chainsmokers' music continues to dominate clubs and festivals worldwide, with other DJs often remixing their songs to keep the party going.
