From Orem, USA, The Used is an emo and screamo band formed in the early 2000s. The band rose to fame with their self-titled debut album in 2002. They followed up with "In Love and Death" 2 years later and "Lies for the Liars." In 2020, the single "Heartwork" came out with a deluxe version featuring B-sides released. Their ninth studio album, "Toxic Positivity," was released in 2023, and B-sides from those sessions will be compiled on an album called "MEDZ" in 2024.

The Used was formed with Branden Steineckert, Quinn Allman, Jeph Howard, and Bert McCracken. Before McCracken joined as vocalist, the band composed music without lyrics and held unsuccessful auditions for singers at Howard's home. Allman then invited McCracken to join after hearing his work, impressed him with their material, and he wrote lyrics for "Maybe Memories".

Quickly after that, they recorded their demo album "Demos from the Basement" in Steineckert's bedroom and caught the attention of producer John Feldmann of Goldfinger with their song "A Box Full of Sharp Objects". Feldmann flew them to Los Angeles, covered their expenses, and helped them secure a record deal with Reprise Records in 2002, just a year after forming.

In 2006, the Used announced Branden Steineckert's departure from the band due to personality conflicts. Dan Whitesides from The New Transit Direction was chosen as his replacement later that year. In 2007, they released the live album "Berth," featuring a DVD of their 2005 Taste of Chaos tour performance and a CD of its audio, along with band biography and music videos.

In mid-January 2014, the Used revealed details about their sixth studio album, "Imaginary Enemy," which was released in April 2014. The album was significantly influenced by Bert McCracken's daughter.

In 2017, the Used embarked on a headlining U.S. tour with support from Glassjaw to promote their new album. Additionally, the band performed acoustic sets at locations such as Huntington Beach and Amoeba Music, where Shekoski and McCracken received praise from Rolling Stone for their powerful acoustic performances.

Something that you might not know is the reason behind the band's name: Facing hardships like poverty and homelessness, they named the band "Used" after friends felt neglected as the band focused on their music.
