Singer, songwriter, and author Vanessa da Mata, was born in Alto Garças, Brazil, and is considered to be one of the top and most popular artists in Brazil. Growing up in a musically diverse environment, Vanessa da Mata had huge influences on pioneers like Tom Jobim. Nowadays, Vanessa da Mata is very respected within the Brazilian music community and she is always working on new projects.

At the early age of 14, Vanessa moved to the city of Uberlândia, aiming for a better education. Her passion for music led Vanessa to perform at local bars only one year later. After finishing high school, Vanessa decided to move to São Paulo, now this time, for better opportunities. After arriving in Brazil's biggest city, she joined the reggae group Shalla-Ball and later toured with Black Uhuru.

By 97, she and her friends noticed her natural talent for songwriting, which led Vanessa to co-write "A Força que Nunca Seca" with Chico César, recorded by Maria Bethânia and nominated for a Latin Grammy. After working on projects and collaborations with Milton Nascimento, and other stars, Vanessa decided to pursue her own solo career.

By 2002, she released her first album "Vanessa da Mata," followed by the 2004 "This Doll Has a Manual." In 2007, her third album came out, "Sim," featuring Ben Harper and Sly & Robbie. By 2010, Vanessa da Mata's name was known everywhere in Brazil and her popularity kept growing. That same year, the Brazilian music star released "Bicicletas, Bolos e Outras Alegrias," collaborating with Gilberto Gil and Seu Jorge.
