A pop sensation was born in Nişantaşı's posh streets of Istanbul, and the least predictable to come from Turkey. This new voice definitely had no wish to be merely part of a mass of humanity but to express his own feelings and thoughts instead. Teaming up with several members of the rock band Kargo, he did an album featuring Turkish pop.

Talk about an entrance! His 2004 debut "Ellerine Sağlık" came like a thunderbolt and moved an incredible 200k copies in its first week. The first single "Zalim" not only topped the charts in Turkey but also across borders, as covers were recorded in languages from Greek to Arabic. Universal Music took notice too, placing the album second in their best-seller list behind Guns N' Roses.

And when his label folded up in Turkey, Yalın didn't bat an eyelid; he leaped over to Pasaj Müzik and came up with "Bir Bakmışsın," giving us gems such as "Küçücüğüm" - so good, snatching the "Best Song of the Year" from POPSAV. Come 2007, it's game up - he got nothing but A players: Ringo Starr bassist Matt Bissonette, Michael Jackson axe-man Tim Pierce, for the album "Her Şey Sensin."

What separates Yalın, however, is not the catchy tunes themselves, but the fact that he writes every song himself, making sure to place a piece of his heart within every lyric. By 2009, he had sold one million albums and earned a cool $6 million but that was never his goal. This time, he really did take his sweet time between releases - after four albums in five years, his comeback single "Anlat Güzel Mi Oralar" in 2012 proved that less can be more.
