Born in Compton, home to many legends of the rap universe, Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson, also known by his stage name, YG, is a West Coast hip hop and gangsta rap artist famous everywhere in the world. He gained early recognition with his mixtapes "4Fingaz" and "The Real 4Fingaz." His debut studio album "My Krazy Life" of 2014 peaked at number two on the Billboard 200. YG is also known for socially and politically conscious themes.

YG co-founded the "Pu$haz Ink" record label with DJ Mustard in 2008. After gaining a following with songs like "She A Model" YG signed with Def Jam, a major record label between rappers, in 2009. His breakout hit "Toot It and Boot It," featuring Ty Dolla Sign, was re-released by Def Jam in 2010.

YG's career continued with mixtapes, tours, and the development of his clothing line, 4Hunnid. He was also featured in XXL's 2011 Freshmen Class and collaborated extensively with DJ Mustard on projects like "I'm Good," "Bitches Ain't Shit" with Tyga and Nipsey Hussle, and "You Broke" featuring Nipsey Hussle.

In 2012, YG announced his debut album "I'm 4rm Bompton," later renamed "My Krazy Life" under Jeezy's label CTE World. The album, released in 2014 via Def Jam, featured the singles "My Nigga" with Rich Homie Quan and Jeezy, and "Left, Right," both produced by DJ Mustard. The cover art showed YG in a mugshot pose, reflecting the album's theme.

In 2021, YG announced "Kommunity Service," his collaborative album with Mozzy, featuring singles like "Bompton to Oak Park" and "Perfect Timing" with Blxst, paying tribute to DMX and the film "Belly."

YG had a very difficult childhood, he joined the Pirus gang at age 16 in 2006. His father served time in jail for tax fraud.

A fun fact that you might not know, is that the rapper's stage name YG is short for Young Gangsta.
