When Creed imploded in 2003, three of its members weren't ready to stop rocking. Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, and Scott Phillips joined with singer Myles Kennedy to form the band Alter Bridge. Known for their unique style of progressive metal, the band's first album "One Day Remains" was quite successful, reaching number 5 in the United States and going gold. The band members still work on parallel projects between Alter Bridge albums, with the band selling over 5 million records worldwide by 2023.
Their first album "One Day Remains" hit like a thunderbolt in 2004, going gold and cracking the top 5. Fun fact: it even gave WWE fans something to cheer about when "Metalingus" became Wrestler Edge's entrance theme. But success came with its own headaches - their label Wind-up Records dropped the ball on promotion so badly, the band had to buy their way out of the contract. After switching to a new record label, they dropped "Blackbird" in 2007, and guitar nerds lost their minds - the title track's solo was crowned the greatest of all time by Guitarist magazine.
The band kept evolving through "AB III" in 2010, which gave them their first number-one rock hit with "Isolation", and played their biggest show yet at London's Wembley Arena. In 2012, the band members worked on other projects - the three former Creed members played with Creed again, Myles Kennedy worked with Slash, and Mark Tremonti released a solo album. They came back together in 2013 to make "Fortress", working again with producer Michael Baskette. The album was very successful with critics, with songs like "Addicted to Pain", "Cry of Achilles", and "Waters Rising" doing well on the rock charts. They toured to support the album, including shows at Australia's Soundwave Festival.
Between albums, they all stayed very busy, with Kennedy working with Slash, Tremonti doing his solo thing, and sometimes the other three reuniting with Creed. But they always come back to Alter Bridge, dropping gems like "Fortress", "Walk the Sky", and 2022's "Pawns & Kings". Speaking of which, here's a twist - on their latest album, Kennedy outdid Tremonti in the heavy riff department! Five million records later, Alter Bridge has proven they're way more than just "that band formed from Creed's ashes." They've carved out their own legacy, one massive riff and soaring chorus at a time.
