Maná Biography
Formed in Guadalajara, Mexico, Maná, also known as Sombrero Verde, is a Latin pop and rock band widely known within Mexico. The current lineup includes Fher Olvera, Alex González, Sergio Vallín, and Juan Calleros. They are one of the best-selling Latin music artists, with over 25 million records sold worldwide, and have won multiple awards, including four Grammy Awards and eight Latin Grammy Awards.
They renamed to Maná in 86 and released their debut album in 87. Their 1992 album, "¿Dónde Jugarán Los Niños?," sold over 10 million copies. Subsequent albums like "Sueños Líquidos," "Revolución de Amor," and "Amar es Combatir" continued their success. Their latest album, "Cama Incendiada," was released in 2015.
Maná's 1992 album, "¿Dónde Jugarán Los Niños?", produced hits like "Oye Mi Amor" and sold over 3 million copies. After González and López left in 1994, Maná released a live album and then brought in Sergio Vallín as the new guitarist. In 1995, Sombrero Verde released "Cuando los Ángeles Lloran," trying some new style, bringing funk and soul to the table, which eventually sold 500k copies.
In 2006, they released "Amar es Combatir," which hit #4 on the Billboard Top 200, with the tour grossing over $35 million. The Latin pop group followed with "Arde El Cielo" 2 years later and "Drama y Luz" in 2011. That was a very important moment because the band addressed important themes like racism and love in their lyrics, with the single "Lluvia al Corazón."
In 2019, Maná announced their "Rayando el Sol Tour" starting in the USA in September and released a new version of "Rayando el Sol" with Pablo Alborán. In 2021, they received the Icon Award at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, where they performed "El Reloj Cucú" with 12-year-old singer Mabel.
