Nothing But Thieves Biography
Out of Southend-on-Sea came five guys who'd shake up British rock. Started in 2012, Nothing but Thieves built their sound around Conor Mason's soaring vocals and raw guitar work from Joe Langridge-Brown and Dom Craik, backed by Philip Blake's bass and James Price's drums.
Their big break? Supporting everyone from Twenty One Pilots to Muse before their name was even out there. When they dropped their self-titled debut in 2015, "Trip Switch" topped US alternative charts—not bad for some Essex lads just getting started. They were selling out tours before they knew it, playing to 30k people supporting Muse in Rome.
Each album pushed them further. "Broken Machine" in 2017 hit number two in the UK, tackling everything from Trump to religion. Then came "Moral Panic" during the pandemic—couldn't tour it properly, so they dropped "Moral Panic II" to finish what they started.
That all changed in 2023 with "Dead Club City"—their first UK number one album, with "Welcome to the DCC" being named as Hottest Record of the Year by Radio 1. Meanwhile, "Overcome" dominated Dutch radio, breaking their top 10 and coming in at number three on their year-end chart.
From club gigs to half a million people at Woodstock Festival Poland, Nothing but Thieves shows how British rock evolves—mixing Jeff Buckley's soul with Queens of the Stone Age's punch. Just some mates from Southend who ended up conquering charts and stadiums.
