Born to a fish and chip shop family in Paisley, UK, Paolo Nutini wasn't exactly destined for stardom. But mix Scottish grit with Italian passion (thanks to his Tuscan dad), add a music-loving grandfather and a sharp-eyed school teacher, and you've got something special brewing. At 17, he ditched school to work as a roadie, selling t-shirts for Speedway and learning the music business from the ground up. Those days working at Glasgow's Park Lane Studio weren't just about making tea - he was crafting demos that would change his life.

Atlantic Records came calling just after his 18th birthday, and "These Streets" hit like a bolt in 2006. That debut album went five times platinum, but it was "Sunny Side Up" in 2009 that really showed what he could do. Mixing soul, folk, and ragtime swing, it topped the UK charts twice and proved this kid from the chip shop had serious range.

"Caustic Love" in 2014 took things deeper - some called it the best British R&B album since the '70s glory days of Rod Stewart. Then he disappeared for eight years, only to come roaring back with "Last Night in the Bittersweet" in 2022. Between packing out Bellahouston Park for 35k fans and doing surprise karaoke in Paisley pubs, Nutini has kept it real: still living in his hometown, still supporting the Celtic, and still dropping a ten grand on that Chewbacca mask - which was worn by Lewis Capaldi. For charity, mind you.

From those early days of learning his craft, Paolo Nutini has proved to a headline at TRNSMT Festival that sometimes the best voices can be from the most obvious, even unlikely of places, including the top floor of a fish and chip shop in Paisley.
